Lava from Bandai-san's eruption during the Meiji era (1868 - 1912) stopped streams and formed separate bodies of water such as Lake Hibara-ko and Goshiki-numa Swamp. The area rich in geographical change is designated as Bandai Asahi National Park. If you climb Mt. Bandai-san, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Aizu basin. Urabandai also features a fun-filled natural environment made up of an amusement farm, hiking courses, golf clubs, and ski grounds.
Situated at the southern side of Mt. Bandai-san, Inawashiro-ko is the nation's third largest lake. Tourists can enjoy an excursion on a cruise boat while marine sport lovers indulge themselves on speed boats, water skis and the like.
