Kiriya
Soba made of pure water is one of Aizu's specialties. Kiriya uses first grade soba powder sifted from their homemade grains to make Iide-gongen Soba (1,420 yen). Another recommendation is their Aizu Ganko Soba (1,200 yen) which is made without any fillers.

Fukuman
Aizu's traditional cuisine was carefully studied, and a samurai course dinner from the feudal era (17th - 19th century) has been recreated. Buke Honzen (3,500 yen - 10,000 yen) requires advance notice. The taste and service will certainly make you feel like a feudal lord.

Tsurugaoka Saryo
Located near Tsuruga-jo Castle, this restaurant specializes in local cuisine. Their special course (3,500 yen - 5,500 yen) comes with Aizu's specialty soup kozuyu. Herring pickled with Japanese pepper is recommended as well. (Tsurugaoka Saryo serves mainly local residents. Out-of-town guests are restricted to one party per day.)

Mitsutaya
This restaurant was originally a miso (bean paste) mill built in 1869. Konnyaku (devil's tongue starch, 2 for 180 yen), taro potatoes, and deep-fried tofu (180 yen each) are dipped in homemade miso and cooked on a grill. Homemade miso is also available.

Yarogamae Tea House
Rice cake, deep-fried tofu, herring, and devil's tongue starch cake dipped in miso come as a dengaku set at 750 yen. Soba and pickled herring with Japanese pepper are available as well. Yarogamae is located near Aizu Buke-yashiki.

Aizu Ichibankan
This unique coffee shop is a replica of the clinic where Noguchi Hideyo(1876 - 1928), a Fukushima-born renowned bacteriologist, underwent surgery for a bad burn. The high ceiling and the retrograde decor add flavor to the cafe's roasted coffee (from 400 yen). The Noguchi Hideyo's Youth Museum (admission: 100 yen) is on the cafe's second floor where the late scientist's desk, letters, and other personal items are on display.

Omachi Gasuto (Fukunishi Honten)
A Meiji period (1868 - 1912) warehouse with a distinguished looking exterior was renovated for this bar. Opened in July of 1997, Omachi Gasuto features a western-style beer restaurant on the first floor and a Japanese-style bar on the second floor. The adjacent store, Fukunishi Honten, carries Aizu's specialty lacquer ware and folkcraft.
