Hakodate Goryokaku Festival (mid May)
A festival featuring a procession of people dressed in clothes from the Battle of Goryokaku era.
Takadaya Kahei Festival (late July)
A festival celebrating successes achieved by Takadaya Kahei. He pioneered the northern sea route and the fishing industry of the northern seas.
Hakodate Port Festival (August 1 - 5)
The largest festival in Hakodate which originated in 1935 to boost morale of the town after a major fire a year before. The massive festival features a parade of 10,000 dancers, Hakodate's favorite "squid dance," and fireworks.
Hakodate Nocturnal View Day (August 13)
This day was organized to heighten Hakodate's appreciation for its nocturnal view. A feature on the Monument of Light held at Midori-no-shima Island afloat the Hakodate Bay is one of the highlights. The best of Hakodate's nocturnal vistas could be observed on August 13.
Hakodate Outdoor Theater (late July - mid August)
A platform is set up on the Goryokaku moat where a performance is held by the people of Hakodate. The production, cast, staff and the full performance are made up of local people.
The Goryo Star Fantasy (January 15 - February 14)
Glittering lights illuminate the snow-covered Goryokaku moat.
Hakodate Winter Festival (February 1 - 14)
Known to some as the Valentine Fantasy, this festival is a romantic event. Snowmen with wings line the Motomachi and Motoi-zaka area. Attached to these illuminated Angel Dolls are messages of love that arrive from senders across the nation.
