Hakuba-sanroku

Hakuba-sanroku National Recreation Area

It is a leisure area located in the west part of Niigata Prefecture and extends over a ravine of the Kotaki-gawa River, a branch river of the Hime-kawa River. In the area, there is the Takanamino-ike Pond (see photograph), where a giant fish of 4 meters is said to live. Hisui-kyo (Jade ravine), where you can see rough jade, and Mt. Myojo-san, where the king of bonsai, 'shimpaku' (Chinese juniper) grows wild on its sheer rock cliff, are also in the area, and you can enjoy more than enough of Nature. There are complete facilities for camping and lodging as well as boating, field athletics and various other outdoor sports.

Hisui-kyo

Hisui-kyo Fishing Park

It is a fishing spot at a mountain stream in Hakuba-sanroku National Recreation Area, and you can enjoy fishing char and rainbow trout there. In late October, 'Fishing Park Char Festival' is held, when you are allowed to fish as many as you like and to catch fish by hand.

Ski Grounds

Itoigawa Seaside Valley Ski Grounds

This ski ground has a great view overlooking the Japan Sea and the Northern Alps Mountains. It is a popular spot throughout the year, as you can enjoy not only skiing but also paragliding, camping and hiking. There are facilities for lodging.

Itoigawa Country Club

This golf course has 18 holes for a total length of 6,250 yards on a site of about 10 million square meters. It is located where you can view the Japan Sea and the Northern Alps mountains far away. The course is very popular, as it is full of variety making the best use of the gentle slope of the hills and naturally grown trees.
