Kyu Usui Pass
Usui Pass, at the border of Nagano and Gunma prefectures is approximately 3 kilometers from Kyu Karuizawa. A division of Kumano shrine's Buddha incarnate is enshrined at the summit. On a clear day, the view of the surrounding mountain ranges from the lookout point is spectacular. The trail through the trees and plants makes a perfect hike to the summit.
From Karuizawa station take Kusakaru Bus or Seibu Kogen Bus for Kyu Karuizawa. Get off at Kyu Karuizawa (4 min. ride) and walk 1.5 min.
The Bird Sanctuary
The Bird Sanctuary is protected as a natural observation area by the government Environment Agency. Up to 130 different types of birds spread their habitat through the premises of 100 hectares. There is a 2 hour bird watching trail that extends to 2,400 meters.

From Naka Karuizawa station take the bus for Onioshidashi. Get off at Hoshino Onsen (20 min. ride) and walk 5 min.
Karuizawa Taliesin
A recreational park on the Shiozawa lakefront, Karuizawa Taliesin is made up of three museums, an archery field, go cart rides, rental boats, tennis courts, a family golf course, plate painting studio, and other leisure facilities.
