It is said that you'll never forget the taste of "Shinshu cattle bred from
apples." The cattle are mainly fed apples. You can eat genuine Oku-shinano's
Kuroge Wagyu (black haired Japanese beef) prepared as sukiyaki or as
plain steak. Its lunch menu is reasonable and popular.

This shop was established in 1779 and sells the famous Sake-manju (a
bean-jam bun). This delicious bun is a very famous gift of Zenkoji. You won't
be able to miss the old three-floored white-walled warehouse with a big oven
at its entrance. Since these buns are not mass produced, you will need to make
reservations for buying them on Saturdays and Sundays.

This is a small shop behind the big Sogo department store. Spaghetti and pizza
are very popular menu items. You can hold private parties here. A full course
dinner is available from 3000 yen/person.

This restaurant is located on the 13th floor of the JA Building and has an overlooking
view of the city of Nagano. This shop follows the self-service system as in
a company cafeteria. You will be surprised of its cheap price. Its lunch menu
is very very cheap and you can get a change for 500 yen.

This is a noodle shop which prepares noodles after you order. Therefore, this
shop is recommendable only when you have a lot of spare time. The country-style
noodle is very tasty.
There is a restaurant that I really don't want to tell anybody. Therefore I won't disclose its name nor its location. All I can say is that it is a small shop with only 21 seats and only 21 meals are served at lunchtime. Four kinds of lunch menus are served with fritters being the main item. In the evening it turns into a Japanese tavern where you can taste different brands of local sake and eat fresh fish. The personality of the stubborn owner is another attraction. Also, his wife sociable wife is another charm point. This shop is located about 5 minutes from IBM and there is a public bathhouse nearby. Is that any hint?
