Confucius Memorial

Confucius Memorial and Chinese Historic Museum

This colorful and extravagant memorial is the only building built by overseas Chinese to commemorate Confucius. The 72 wise men and the statue of Confucius were all imported from China. The adjoining Chinese Historic Museum contains imperial cultural items that were presented by the Peking Gugong Institute to the city of Nagasaki and also artifacts presented by the National Chinese Historic Museum. You can also see the heibayou (life-sized statues of soldiers and horses), bronze ware, and ceramic ware of national class.

Tips

Holland Slope

In old Nagasaki, every Westerner was "Holland-san." This is why the steep hill where the expatriates used to live came to be called "the Holland slope," but this is not an official name. The stone-paved slopes of Nagasaki are beautiful and exotic, especially when it rains.
