Naritasan Calligraphy Museum

This museum, located in Naritasan Park, is of a rare type, as it is a composite special museum of calligraphy, where about 250 fine works of modern calligraphy are collected and displayed. Most of them are from the end of the Yedo Period (1603 - 1867) to the present. The museum is the base of preservation, study, and diffusion of modern Japanese calligraphy.

Reiko-kan

Naritasan Reiko-kan Museum

It is a museum located right behind Dai-to Pagoda of Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple, and they exhibit the materials on the temple. You can learn everything about it here, such as about its foundation and flourishing, pilgrimages there and its temple town, the relation between the temple and Ichikawa Danjuro, and related art works. There is also a new hall on the first floor of Dai-to Pagoda, where large votive pictures and treasures are exhibited.

Naritasan Buddhist Library

This rare library specializing in books on Buddhism holds 230 thousand volumes. It used to be Narita Library, which was built in 1901 for the purpose of exhibiting an extensive collection of books by Priest Ishikawa. When it was rebuilt in 1988, the name was changed to Naritasan Buddhist Library. The modern white building is rather contrastive to its name. It is now widely used by both specialists and the general public as a treasure house of Buddhism materials.

Tourist Pavilion

Narita Tourist Pavilion

This is a tourist information center slightly different from ordinary ones. They introduce, by utilizing new media, not only history and the latest tourist information on Narita and the areas around it, but also of places all over the world. They also exhibit two floats which are actually paraded at Gion Festival. Their audio-visual presentation of the festival projected on a five-sided screen is so powerful and appealing that you may feel like visiting the city during the festival period. They also have exhibitions on special themes from time to time. Every Thursday morning, tea ceremony for foreign visitors is held for free.

Sogo Goichidaiki-kan (memorial hall of Sogo)

The hall is in the precincts of the Sogo Reido Sanctuary (Tosho-ji Temple), and the life of Sakura Sogo is shown there by presenting 13 distinctive scenes and using a total of 65 dolls. The presentation is rather realistic with effective lighting and narrative. The tragic story of the direct appeal to the shogun, well-known as the 'Sakura Riot,' and its aftermath are explained intelligibly.

Museum of Aeronautical Sciences

This museum tells us quite clearly about the history and the latest technology of airplanes in Japan. They have interesting exhibitions including a real-size model of the first biplane flown in Japan and a huge engine of a jumbo jet. The most popular here is the flight simulator. It is a training device for pilots and you can experience the feeling of being a pilot. From the panoramic observation platform on the fifth floor, you can see the runway of Narita Airport.
