Okayama-jo Castle celebrates its 400th year anniversary

In 1997, Okayama had two major events to celebrate. One of the reasons to celebrate was that the city was introduced throughout Japan as the setting for NHK's popular television series Aguri. The other exciting occasion was Okayama-jo Castle's 400th year anniversary which was celebrated through various commemorative events. In the year 2000, Okayama will celebrate the 300th year anniversary of the prefecture's pride attraction: Koraku-en Garden. Thus, Okayama has launched a long-term operation to maintain and renovate cultural assets and to clean up public roads and facilities. These projects should help maintain the historic atmosphere portrayed in Aguri while enhancing the attractions of sightseeing spots. (Photograph: Waterside Momo-kun, the modern version of Momotaro)
