Not many people know that bicycles are the popular transportation means for the people in Sakai. In this museum, its development as a major bicycle producer, which is based on the gunsmith art, is introduced along with an easy-to-understand description of a bicycle's mechanism as well as its history. A number of antique as well as rare bikes are also displayed.

Sakai City Museum

The collection of this museum consists of items excavated from Mozu Tumulus, matchlock rifles (a special product in Sakai), folding screens depicting the glory of medieval Sakai (Sumiyoshi Sairei-zu byobu, Namban byobu, etc.) and other numerous references of provincial history. Among interesting displays are manuscripts by Yosano Akiko, a nationally known poet, born in Sakai, and introduction of people associated with Sakai. There is also a corner which shows by visual presentation, the sightseeing locations in the city as well as the Sakai Festival.
