Ski Jump Hill

Okura-yama / Miya-no-mori Ski Jump Hill

Sapporo is a Ski Jump Mecca. The jump hill is open to the public during summer as an observatory (Okura-yama is not accessible due to repair until the year 2000). From the top of the hill, you can look over the Japan Sea and the Ishikari Plain. Miya-no-mori Ski Jump Hill covered with snow will be transformed using green artificial grass, and utilized as a summer jump hill. / 011-642-1972

Maruyama Park

Maruyama Park is situated to the west of the city, at the foot of Mt. Maruyama (226 meters above sea level), providing a recreational spot for citizens. There is a zoo, Hokkaido Jingu Shrine, and a ball game stadium in the park. It is also famous for its cherry blossoms, and is crowded with a lot of visitors coming to appreciate them in late spring.

Nopporo Forest Park

This primeval forest, which is quite rare these days, is fully utilized in this great 2,000 hectare forest park. There are a number of wild birds, making it the best place for bird-watching. Some of the buildings during the frontier era (late 19th century to early 20th century) have been restored, and they are placed near the Historical Village of Hokkaido which recreates life in the frontier age.

Maeda Forest Park

It took 10 years (1982 - 1992) to complete this European style garden in the Teine green belt. The project was part of a plan "to surround Sapporo with a green belt". From the palace-like observatory lounge looking towards Mt. Teine-yama, is an extended 600 meter canal with 320 poplar trees along the bank. It is a popular recreational site both for adults and children with wild birds forests, sport facilities, and a field with barbecue equipment.

Sapporo Sato Land

In this facility, you will learn how important it is for human beings to coexist with nature through outdoor activities and farming. They have a day camp for making butter and sausages, a herb garden, barbecue facilities, as well as a recreation field. They also rent some farming lot for citizens, who can feel the joy of harvest.
