Museum of Takachiho History and Folklore

A total of 600 exhibits regarding the region's folklore, historical, and archaeological information are on display at this museum.
The "Native Section" displays Takachiho's myths and legends; the "Folklore Section" displays clothing made of hemp and farming tools used in the mountain villages; the "History Section" clay figurines and earthen ware used in ancient times.

Takachiho-kyo Gorge Freshwater Fish Aquarium

Takachiho-kyo Gorge Freshwater Fish Aquarium

One of Japan's most unique freshwater fish aquarium where rare fish found in Gokase River can be seen. A total of about 50 kinds of fish including tropical freshwater fish from Brazil and Africa can be seen here as well. This aquarium which is run by the town was built for research and study purposes.

From Takachiho bus terminal take the Miyako Bus for Mukoyama. Get off at Takachiho-kyo (10 min. ride).
