Ishibumi-no-michi

Takasaki natural walkway and Ishibumi-no-michi (a stone monument road)

The natural walkway begins at Joshin dentetsu (railway) Yamana station on the southern green hill. The path, with historical spots and a touch of nature, is a popular place for hiking. A five kilometer portion of the road, between Yamana hachiman-gu Shrine and Kanazawa Monument, is called the stone monument road, which continues all the way to the Shorin-zan hill for 21 kilometers. Some waka (a 31-syllable Japanese poem) about this region from Manyo-shu (5C - 8C, the oldest anthology ever found in Japan) are engraved on 26 stone monuments. Here you can indulge in the ancient cultural atmosphere in nature.

Gunma-no Mori Park and Mt. Kannon-yama ancient tomb

Gunma-no Mori Park is a large forest park which was established as part of the Meiji 100th Anniversary project. The Gunma Prefectural Museum of History and the Museum of Modern Art, Gunma are located on the site, which make the location both culturally and recreationally entertaining. A 10 minute walk from the park lies the ancient tomb of Mt. Kannon-yama. This is often compared with Shoso-in in Nara because some invaluable articles have been excavated here. The burial accessories found in the "keyhole-shaped" tumulus, which was built at the end of sixth century, has been designated as important cultural property, and displayed in the Gunma Prefectural Museum of History.
