Tarumae Garo, the Exotic Beauty of Moss Covered ValleysIn Ainu language garo refers to an area where both sides are steep cliffs. At the southern foot of Mount Tarumae is the Tarumae River. Along this river is a valley covered with green moss. The mist from the river and the moss that covers about 1.2 kilometers create mystic beauty. ●Take the Muroran Honsen Line from Tomakomai Station. A farm for tourists operated by Shadai Farm, a famous farm that is a 15-minute drive from the New Chitose Airport. Their property stretches 500,000 square meters where you can go horse-back riding, cycling, or play tennis. White birches and Japanese larches give the farm an elegant atmosphere. If you are a horse race fan, you may find the Horse Gallery museum very interesting. The restaurant serves local gourmet.
