A restaurant specializing in local cuisine. One of their specialties, yamafugu, is made of konnyaku (jelly-like cake of tapioca). The dish was named as such since its texture and the translucent appearance resembles fugu (blowfish).

Sarano-ki Shoin-tei
A historic samurai residence in Tono-machi turned into a local cuisine restaurant featuring a beautiful view of a Japanese garden. Their popular item is their lunch (served in boxes) which consists of rice with chrysanthemum-like plants, konnyaku (jelly-like cake of tapioca), cooked alpine vegetables, soba (buckwheat noodles), and other delicate dishes.

This restaurant rejects the use of preservatives and chemically grown vegetables. Their gruel with tofu, ice konnyaku (jelly-like tapioca), and mushrooms called "Doctor Killer" is popular. Their recommendation is the ice cream made of eggs laid by local hen.
